Prof. Jihoon Ryoo will be giving a talk on "Next-Generation GNSS Positioning Infrastructure for Urban Canyons and Tunnels".
Please find the seminar details below: Title: Next-Generation GNSS Positioning Infrastructure for Urban Canyons and Tunnels Topics: GNSS / Precise Positioning: multipath and NLOS mitigation, tunnel GNSS re-radiation (uGPS), AI-based sensor fusion, and GNSS attack detection Date & Time: Friday, October 16, 2 PM Venue: B206
Abstract
GNSS positioning has moved from meter-level to centimeter-level accuracy over the past two decades, driven by DGPS and RTK correction services. Two environments still defeat it: dense urban canyons and underground spaces. In cities, multipath and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) reflections push position estimates off the road, often into neighboring buildings. In tunnels, satellite signals are blocked entirely.
This talk covers both problems, starting at the infrastructure level and moving to learning-based methods. First, we review why urban GNSS fails structurally. We then examine super correlation, a measurement-engine technique that recovers the weaker line-of-sight signal in the presence of strong reflections, using field data from Gangnam and Teheran-ro.
