Aruna Balasubramanian

Aruna Balasubramanian is an Associate Professor at Stony Brook University.  She received her Ph.D from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2011. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow/Computing Innovation Fellow at the University of Washington from 2011 to 2015. Apart from her core research interests, she is passionate about broadening participation in Computer Science and leads the diversity committee at Stony Brook University.  

Aruna Balasubramanian’s research work incorporates elements of networking and systems in the context of mobile devices. Her goal is to rearchitect mobile systems to support current and next generation mobile applications. In this context, her current research interests are: (1) Efficient AI: Designing compute and energy efficient AI and machine learning algorithms that can run effectively on resource constrained mobile devices, (2) Accessibility: Adapting mobile applications to be significantly more accessible for users with motor and vision disabilities, and (3) Mobile internet protocols: Designing new transport and application layer protocols that significantly improve video and Web performance in diverse network environments.
