Alex Kuhn received his Ph.D. and M.S.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan and his B.S.E. from Michigan State University in Computer Engineering. He has over a decade of experience in both industry and academia, having worked at Apple researching and developing software and educational curriculum, running his own software development company, and working as a researcher at the University of Michigan.

 

TEACHING SUMMARY

Alex Kuhn's research interests are in designing and using learning technologies in education that take into consideration the unique needs of learners. He has explored this research in a variety of projects. He worked at Apple developing Swift Playgrounds and creating educational curriculum that teaches people to code. He was also the lead developer and researcher on the Zydeco Project at the University of Michigan, which investigated how to use mobile technology to support K-12 students engaging in science inquiry. His current focus is investigating how to build better learning technologies and instructional practices to improve computer science education.
