1. Overview

[ Objective ]
To establish the Korea–Central Asia Science and Technology Cooperation Center, serving as a hub for bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and ICT. Key initiatives include the exchange of outstanding researchers and joint conferences.

[ Rationale ]
In accordance with the science and technology cooperation agreement, including the exchange of skilled researchers, there is a growing need to establish a global base in Korea to cover Central Asia, including Mongolia.

 

2. Funding Details

  • Number of Projects: 1

  • Budget: Up to KRW 400 million per year (including indirect costs)
    ※ Up to KRW 200 million for the first year (6-month duration)

  • Project Duration: 3 years (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2028)
    ※ Year 1: July 1, 2025 – December 31, 2025 (6 months)
    ※ The budget and duration are subject to change based on funding availability.
    ※ Continued funding will be determined based on annual performance evaluations.

4. Program Details

[ Support Content ]

  • The Principal Investigator (PI) applying for the project will serve as the Center Director, responsible for the overall operation including physical setup, team composition, and full execution of the program.

[ Dedicated Organization ]

  • Center Director: Must be a qualified expert with strong project leadership and management capabilities.

  • Core Personnel: At least 3 members including the director; team expansion via new hires or external dispatch depending on project scope.

  • Facilities: Appropriate office and meeting space, related infrastructure, and collaboration mechanisms with relevant departments and organizations should be secured for effective project execution.

[ Talent Attraction and Support Activities ]

  • Discovering local study-abroad candidates, organizing promotional briefings, and facilitating partnerships between Korean and Central Asian universities.

    • For example, matching local scholarship programs like Kazakhstan’s Bolashak or Uzbekistan’s Umid with Korean institutions to increase recruitment efforts through collaboration with existing partner universities and research institutes.

[ Network Development ]

  • Establishing networks and understanding local technological and industrial trends to support Korean R&D’s entry into Central Asian markets.
