INTERESTS

Mobile/Wireless Networking - protocols, systems and performance evaluation. Cellular networks, mesh and sensor networks, vehicular networks.

BIOGRAPHY

Samir Das was educated at Jadavpur University in Kolkata (Calcutta) and Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He also worked briefly in Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata (Calcutta). Prior to Stony Brook, Das was a faculty member at the University of Texas at San Antonio and then at University of Cincinnati. Das has been at Stony Brook from 2002.

RESEARCH

Samir R. Das directs "Wireless Networking and Systems Lab" (or WINGS lab). The lab is engaged in research related to protocols, systems and performance evaluation of various forms of mobile/wireless networks. This includes local area networks, cellular wide area networks, ad hoc/mesh or sensor networks and more recently in free space laser networks.

AWARDS

Samir Das is a recipient of CS department's faculty research award 2014, faculty service award 2010, Best Paper Award in ACM MobiSys 2007, IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visitor, 2001-2003, and NSF Faculty Early CAREER Award, 1998.
